Wicihitowin Conference Invitation
Client: The Engagement Party/Wicihitowin Planning Committee (2022)
Services provided: videography | editing
The Wicihitowin Indigenous Engagement conference began in 2015 and was held in-person through 2019. When the conference went virtual in 2020, I was hired to film and edit the elder teachings, musical performances, sponsor messages, and residential school survivor testimonials. I continued in this role through to 2022. Above is the invitation for the final conference.
Cabin Lake mini-doc
Client: Pier Solutions (2020)
Services provided: videography | editing | script writing | voiceover
In Canada the maintenance and installation of bridges often happens during the winter. During the winter of 2019-2020, Pier Solutions installed a pedestrian bridge in Whiteshell Provincial Park for Trails Manitoba.
This video documents the installation of that bridge. I was on-site for about 2 weeks, with the bridge crew capturing portions of the project I couldn't be around for. Then in the summer of 2020 I coordinated with Dale Thielman to wrap the story up with some summer footage of the completed project.
Operation: Loyal Serpent IV (night game)
Client: Merrill Dunes (2019)
Services provided: videography | editing
For the last several years I've been documenting the action that goes on at Merrill Dunes (a paintball, laser-tag and airsoft field just outside Saskatoon). An airsoft mil-sim is hosted there every summer, with 2019 being the fourth year this event was put on, and the first year a night op was included by the organizers. Over 200 players were in attendance.
Waskesiu Bridge Install
Client: Pier Solutions (2017)
Services provided: videography | editing
Pier Solutions was contracted to install a new bridge on the north side of Waskesiu Lake, over the Kingsmere River.
Initially a helicopter was considered to lift the bridge into place, but trust those engineers to calculate the bridge would make it around all the corners!
Kinley timelapse
Client: Personal project (2014)
Services provided: videography | editing
This is just a fun project I made while helping out on the construction of a bridge on Highway 14, near Kinley, SK.
The music is from SimAnt, a computer game where you control an ant colony and win by overrunning the house of some unfortunate people, driving them onto the street. (These folks happily go on to overshadow the ants in popularity nine years later as "the Sims".
Turf Passion
Client: Deer Ridge Golf Club (2013)
Services provided: concept | script writing | storyboarding | direction | videography | editing
Private golf clubs need to keep their courses in top shape, and that necessitates people with turf passion. The objective for Deer Ridge's recruitement video was to allude, in a memorable way, to the attributes that the Superintendent was looking for in his employees: respect for others, attention to detail and a quest for perfection in the job at hand.
Finding Room
Client: Personal project (2012)
Services provided: concept | videography | editing
A for-fun piece of me travelling from Saskatchewan to Ontario. Watch me travel 3,300 km, find a place to stay and get a job, all in under 3 minutes. Roy Orbison helps bring it all together.
Entry for Drinking and Driving PSA
Client: Mike Conlon (2011)
Services provided: camera operator | director of photography
I helped Mike Conlon, Saskatoon filmmaker, to shoot this PSA. It was submitted as an entry for a competition put on by Agency59 (in Toronto) as part of the Labatt's Draw the Line Campaign.
Encouragement Trailer
Client: Devin McAdam (2011)
Services provided: technical assistance | camera operator (shared role) | director of photography (shared role)
I helped shoot this during the summer of 2011 for Saskatoon filmmaker Devin McAdam. It was a simple story in terms of the number of locations we had to shoot in, and this allowed a small, and dedicated group of people to do a very thorough, and cohesive job of helping Devin realize his vision. Acting, set decoration, and effects were all top-notch.
He and I shared the role of DP and camera operator and I used my Steadicam on a number of scenes in the film. We were shooting for a little over a week.
Explorer Trailer
Client: Personal project (2011)
Services provided: concept | direction | (some of the) videography | editing
This is a trailer for a grandly ambitious web series I attempted in the fall of 2011.
This project broke me as a DIYer. There are some things that can't be accomplished (in any sort of timely fashion at least) by hobbyists. It left me with a shadow of the necessary respect for rocket engineers.
This video was compiled from some of the footage that I captured while trying to make the first episode, as well as some behind-the-scenes footage.
